volunteering
Needham Market Internet Cafe intends to improve access to computers and the internet for everybody in Needham Market and the surrounding area. If you have any skills or ideas that can help us achieve this then please get in touch. You can find contact details by using the link above.
We want volunteers for every part of the organisation.
You can volunteer to supervise the Internet Cafe during opening hours. To do this you DO NOT need to know anything about computers or the internet, although some basic knowledge might be helpful. You will serve drinks and snacks, which will require very basic maths.
Alternatively you can volunteer to help with general administration duties, such as book-keeping or fundraising. Secretarial and accounting skills will be useful but are NOT required.
We also want volunteers with some IT skills. Presently we have one volunteer with knowledge in a broad range of IT areas, and most of the Internet Cafe supervisors can perform basic tasks in Microsoft Windows.
We need volunteers with some web design skills. We are currently trying to organise a 'virtual youth club' with the Needham Market Youth Club, for young people in the area around Needham Market who cannot access the town's youth facilities. We need to design a secure website where young people in the local area can meet.
We are also in need of a second location. We are full every day, and as the current location is youth orientated we are trying to find premises for a quieter Internet Cafe where we could also run ICT training courses. If you know of a place we could use, or you're interested in providing a course, or you can help us to run courses for older Needham residents, many of whom have never used a PC or been on the internet, then please get in touch by visiting the contact page.
