Funding Applications to Suffolk County Council
SCC Comunity Education:
Comm. Ed. have agreed that we can use the back room of the existing Youth Club building, as funding-in-kind. Full details have yet to be worked out but this is likely to be worth around £20,000 over the 3 years.
SCC Suffolk Rural Services Group:
Grants are up to a maximum £5000 (However projects that can prove they are of strategic importance to their area through a needs appraisal may be able to apply above this threshold) or 50% of the project costs (which ever is lesser).
SCC Extended Schools:
Linda Nixon, Extended Schools Officer, has been enthusiastic about the idea since the beginning. She is on the Steering Group and was the first person to commit funds to the project in the form of £100 to open a bank account, host the website and cover initial administrative costs. Linda has also accompanied directors on courses (particularly the Princess Trust Youth Cafe's event in Cambridge).
SCC County Councillor Locality Budget:
During 'Democracy Week' a Speed Dating event was held at Needham Market Community Centre, where Suffolk County Councillors met with local young people to discuss issues that concerned them. One of the key issues centred around the 'wish that there could be an Internet Cafe'. Our County Councillor has taken this on board and has recently written to the Youth Club stating:
"I am very pleased to write that the Internet Cafe is on its way and that I shall be helping, through my County Council Locality Budget, towards equipment to furnish it."
