Analysis:
The market data provides various insights into the market size, the potential users, and the requirements of the local population. This information will feed into user estimates, target groups and enables us to see the justification for community provision of ITC facilities.
A detailed breakdown of user estimates, based on Healthcheck data, provides the basis of the Service User estimates within the budget outline.
The Needham Market & Surrounding Areas Health Check 2004 (appendix c) provides numerous sources of useful information, and provides useful justification for the project. The community has shown a need for these facilities.
It's interesting to note several of the statistics, including:
According to the 2004 English Indices of Multiple Deprivation, Mid Suffolk has an overall rank of 297 out of 354 local authorities. It has a rank of 304 on the income measure. Mid Suffolk also scores low on Access to "Education Skills and Training".
Between September 1999 and September 2004 the number of young people aged 18 to 24 years who were claiming work-related benefits increased by 20 per cent in Mid Suffolk, compared to a reduction of 30.7 per cent in Great Britain overall.
Appendix C also highlights the potential for rural isolation within the area: The number of households consisting of pensioners living alone in the Health Check area is 18% (366 people). This is high in comparison with Mid Suffolk 13.6%, Suffolk 15.3% and England and Wales 14.4%.
