Needham Market & Surrounding Areas Health Check 2004 - Relevant Data:


EC1 C1 Unemploment 2.2% - a fall of 7.7% since 2000.

EC1 C4 Average household earnings are below average @ £452 per week.

EC3 S2 Non vocational education - of the 230 respondents to the Healthcheck survey June 2004, 51% stated they would attend evening education locally if available.

SC1 C7 The number of households consisting of pensioners living alone in the Health Check area is 18% (366 people). This is high incomparison with Mid Suffolk 13.6%, Suffolk 15.3% and England and Wales 14.4%.

SC5 C2 In youth survey, 28% say they would like to see the development of sports activities. 61% of adults stated they would like to see sports activities available for 10-19 year olds. The Youth priority, however, is for an Internet/Gaming cafe - 36% see it as the number 1 priority.

Adult Survey

Q29 - 118 people (51%) would use evening education facilities if developed in Needham Market. 60 would use an online newsletter, 85 people would use a website and a further 30 would use computer facilities.

Q32 - 115 people (50%) think that Teenagers and Young people (13-24) are the section of the community that is not catered for in relation to activities.

Q36 - 130 people (56%) prioritise a drop in centre as the most important facility for young people.

Youth Survey

Q11 - 110 people (48%) prioritise an Internet/Gaming cafe. 55 people (24%) would like a TV/Music lounge. A further 20 people (9%) see a drop in centre as their number 1 priority.
