gaming room
We are working with the young people of Needham Market to set up a gaming room. The project is in association with Needham Market Youth Club, and has received funding from the Youth Opportunity Fund. We're using this page as a diary so we can keep track of our progress, and as a news page for other people to see how we're getting on. We have also created a gallery for the project.
September 2007 - During a test session at the Internet Cafe, the idea of a gaming room came up, and it was agreed that Bradley would write the funding bid. Over the next few Youth Club sessions we decided on the equipment we would need and Bradley wrote the bid.
October - We received a positive response from our funding bid. We were awarded all the money we applied for, which should allow us to set up a really great gaming room!
12th & 15th November - During two Youth Club sessions we used Sketchup to review 3D plans of the gaming room and then we made a final decision on the layout.
19th November - We've got a gallery for the project.
8th December - We cleared the mess - only to discover that the floor is completely rotten! This is currently undermining the entire project, as the room is unusable in this state and we have no budget to cover this kind of work. If you think you can help in ANY way, please get in contact.
February 2008 - As we're using a Council building Suffolk County Council had to take it upon themselves to get the floor fixed, which is great, although it did take a while! Now the room needs a carpet and a lick of paint, and an interior window needs to be inserted.
March 2008 - We finalised the equipment and adjusted our layout plans slightly.
March 2008 - We decided to go ahead and purchase the equipment. We're all really happy with the way the project is going. We still have some work to do to make everything ready, so we're eager to get started! We're just waiting for SCC.
March 2008 - We have another problem! SCC have already stretched their budget for us and this means they can't currently undertake the work that needs doing. Unfortunately we aren't allowed to use our YOF funding to do work to the building so we hope our County Councillor may be able to help.
April 2008 - Well, it seems like a long time coming, but we're finally getting there! We've decorated the room, and mounted the screens and consoles. We still have a few things to sort out, but it's getting exciting now! Check out the pictures.
